Liven Singh: A Rising Star in South African Soccer
Liven Singh, a 23-year-old soccer talent from Durban North, is making headlines in the South African football arena. His journey, which commenced at the tender age of four, is a testament to his dedication and passion for the beautiful game. Singh’s early days on the pitch began at Virginia Football Club, laying the groundwork for what promises to be a remarkable career.
“I started playing football at the age of four when I joined my first club called Virginia Football Club,” Singh recalls. This early initiation into soccer allowed him to develop key skills and a profound love for the sport. Over the years, he has risen through the ranks of several notable clubs, experiencing both growth and challenges along the way.
From Virginia Football Club to Professional Soccer
Singh spent 12 formative years with Virginia Football Club before making the pivotal move to Royal Eagles. At just 16, he entered the academy, which was a launching pad for many players in the region. By the time he turned 18, Singh had signed his first professional contract with Royal Eagles, a team that would eventually undergo a rebranding to become Real Kings and later Royal AM. This progression highlights not only his talent but also his drive to succeed at the highest levels of the sport.
Making his mark in the 2021/2022 season, Singh featured prominently for the Royal AM Diski team. His contributions were recognized when he won the prestigious Engen Knockout Challenge Defender of the Tournament award, a significant achievement that solidified his status as a standout player within the competitive South African football landscape.
A New Focus on Futsal
Despite his success, Singh is now channeling his energy into Futsal, a fast-paced, indoor version of soccer. “It would be an honour to get a chance to play overseas, but for now, I’m focusing on Futsal where I see a pathway for better opportunities,” he states. His decision to pivot towards this sport is strategic, as he aims to enhance his skills and create more opportunities for himself, both locally and internationally.
As he immerses himself in Futsal, Singh remains optimistic about the potential it holds. His commitment to personal growth is evident in his hard work and preparation, as he seeks to broaden his horizons within this dynamic environment.
The Role of His Coach and Academy
Central to Singh’s development is his coach, Mahadhew Singh, who recognizes Liven’s immense potential. “Liven is an incredibly skilled and intelligent player. His technical abilities are remarkable, and he has the game intelligence that sets him apart. It’s been a privilege to work with him,” the coach expresses. Mahadhew heads the Durban School of Excellence, competing under the name Blue Stars, which is widely recognized for shaping players who have progressed to notable South African leagues, including the PSL, Motsepe League, and National First Division.
The academy prides itself on its holistic approach to player development. “Our academy focuses on technique and intelligence, educating players about the game. We also emphasize good structure and discipline,” Mahadhew explains. This commitment to foundational skills has proven invaluable for many young players.
Futsal’s Growing Importance
In addition to developing soccer skills, the academy has also fostered success in Futsal, with seven players having represented South Africa on the international stage. The fast-paced nature of Futsal aligns well with the technical skill sets being cultivated at the academy and offers unique opportunities for players like Singh. “Futsal has been a great platform for our players, and we’re expanding. We’re excited to start operations in Phoenix within the next two weeks,” Mahadhew shares, highlighting the academy’s continued growth and commitment to nurturing talent.
Ambitions of an International Player
As Singh hones his craft in both soccer and Futsal, his ambitions to play on an international stage remain unshaken. He states his goal clearly and unwaveringly: to make his mark globally. With a blend of hard work, support from his coach and academy, and an ever-evolving skill set, it’s only a matter of time before Liven Singh steps onto the world stage, representing the depths of South African talent in the realm of football. His journey is one to watch, as he navigates the exciting and challenging waters of professional sports.
